Fattuwal-Bada Pind, April 7 (Preet Kaur Preeti) – Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurmeet Lal, World Health Day was celebrated today at the Community Health Center, Bada Pind. This year, World Health Day focused on the theme “Healthy Start, Healthy Life.”
Senior Medical Officer Dr. Amita Luna explained that World Health Day is celebrated globally to spread awareness about good health. It was on this day, April 7, 1948, that the World Health Organization (WHO) was established.
Dr. Amita discussed various health-related issues facing the public, including the rising drug addiction problem in Punjab. She expressed concern that addiction is ruining the youth and poses a serious challenge to the health of society. Dr. Luna urged people to spread awareness about the dangers of drugs and take advantage of de-addiction centers.
Additionally, Dr. Amita Luna raised concerns about the increasing number of non-communicable diseases in Punjab, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart diseases. These diseases require long-term treatment and are primarily caused by unhealthy lifestyles.
Medical Officer Dr. Mamta Gautam emphasized the importance of regular exercise and a balanced diet to maintain a healthy weight. She also advised avoiding tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.
Furthermore, Dr. Gautam recommended regular health check-ups, ensuring heart and diabetes patients take their medications regularly, and adopting methods like yoga and meditation to avoid mental stress.
On this occasion, Block Extension Educator Preetinder Singh, Health Supervisors Kuldeep Verma, Satnam, L.H.V. Kulwinder Kaur, and the entire staff were present.
