Powercom Employees Hold Strong Protest Rally Against Privatization

 Noorpurbedi, 13 December   (Daljit Channoli): On the call of the National Coordination Committee of Electrical Engineers and Employees, a nationwide “Anti-Privatization Day” was observed today. As part of the protests, various Powercom unions held a powerful rally in front of the Powercom office located in Singhpur (Noorpurbedi).

During the rally, Powercom employees expressed their concerns about the ongoing attacks on workers’ rights by the government. Led by the leadership of the PSEB Employees’ Joint Forum of Junior Engineers, the workers condemned the continuous erosion of employee rights. They stated that the privatization process not only threatened their rights but also caused significant mental and financial distress to the employees.

Union leaders noted that government institutions across the country were gradually being handed over to private hands. They emphasized that workers from all over the country must unite and raise their voices against privatization on a large scale. The leaders also pointed out that privatization now loomed over UT’s electricity employees, and they vowed to strongly oppose it if the Chandigarh Electricity Board was handed over to private companies like those in Varanasi and Agra.

Prominent leaders including JE Santokh Singh, JE Rampal, JE Maninder Kumar Bains, Mann Singh, Mohan Lal, Surjeet Kumar, Baldev Singh, Harjinder Singh, Ramesh Kumar, Gurmukh Singh, and Rajpal Singh addressed the rally, urging the workers to continue their struggle against privatization.
