Gram Choupal Program Organized by Bureau of Indian Standards in Village Udekaran

 Sri Muktsar Sahib, 13 December ( Manpreet Singh ) : A Gram Choupal program was organized in the village of Udekaran under the leadership of Shri Vishal Tomar, Head of the Chandigarh Branch of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The program was conducted in collaboration with the village Panchayat, with special guests including Deputy Director Shri Kushagar Jindal from the BIS office in Chandigarh.

The program was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of BIS standards and educating village panchayats about quality standards. In his address, Deputy Director Jindal emphasized that the main objective of the program was to inform village panchayats about the standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards. He explained that it was essential to be aware of the quality of goods used in village development, particularly in terms of purchasing and selling, as well as spreading awareness to customers. He also introduced the BIS Care application available on mobile phone app stores, which helps consumers make informed decisions when purchasing items.

Standard Promotion Officer Shri Vikas Kumar, who was also present, thanked the village panchayat and the sarpanch, urging people to focus on buying products with recognized quality marks like Hallmark for gold jewelry and ISI marks for other household items. He provided information on how to check the quality of gold jewelry using the BIS Care application.

Social worker Narendra Singh Pamma Sandhu, while addressing the gathering, explained the importance of purchasing quality household items, such as gas stoves, water bottles, pressure cookers, children’s toys, and cement pipes, with the ISI mark. He also stressed the need to always ask for a proper bill when making purchases.

The program was attended by around 150 people, including various Panchayat members, who were honored with special kits. The event also included arrangements for lunch and refreshments. Panchayat members such as Sukhcharan Singh (Nikka), Labh Singh, Veerpal Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur, Jagmeet Singh, Mahima Singh, Sarabjeet Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur, and Rajinder Singh were present at the event.

The program successfully raised awareness about the importance of quality standards and educated villagers about the role of the Bureau of Indian Standards in ensuring consumer safety.
