Rupnagar, 6 December  (Daljeet Channoli): Rupnagar city has been grappling with drinking water issues for a long time, but now a permanent solution is finally underway. MLA Dinesh Chadha shared the good news with the media today, stating that a ₹7 crore project has been approved to resolve the city’s drinking water problem.

Chadha explained that after his ongoing efforts and discussions with local body department officials and Local Body Minister Dr. Razjot, the tender for the water supply project was approved. The project aims to provide an adequate supply of drinking water to the city’s residents, an issue that has persisted for decades.

Since 1992, the same amount of water has been taken from the canal, even though the city’s population has increased by five to seven times since then. As a result, the water demand has risen significantly, but the supply has remained the same. The new project, costing ₹7 crore, will involve laying a new pipeline from the canal, ensuring a greater volume of water is supplied to meet the city’s needs. The water will be treated and purified before being distributed to residents.

Chadha further added that this project will solve the water shortage that affects half of Rupnagar city, especially during the summer months. He thanked Local Body

Minister Dr. Razjot Singh and Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann for addressing this long-standing issue and providing the necessary funding. The project is expected to be completed in one year, after which the city’s drinking water issues will be fully resolved.
