The 13th Kabaddi Cup organized by the Dhan Dhan Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Sports and Welfare Club in the village of Sandharasi, located under the Ghanour constituency, concluded with remarkable achievements. The event was held under the guidance of international Kabaddi player and Punjab Health Systems Corporation Vice Chairman Maninderjeet Singh Vicky Ghanour, along with international Kabaddi players Tinku Ghanour and Manveer Singh Mani Sarwara.
The inauguration of the event was conducted by Gurjant Singh, father of late Kabaddi player Jaspreet Singh Jassu Ghanour. Prominent guests included Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman of Punjab Mandi Board; Ranajodh Singh Handana, Chairman of PRTC; Megh Chand Sher Majra, Chairman of Nagar Sudhar Trust Patiala; Jassi Soinia, Chairman of District Planning Board; and various other dignitaries. Awards were distributed by Sant Baba Gurvinder Singh of Madi Sahib.
Addressing the media, Maninderjeet Singh Vicky Ghanour revealed that 46 teams from Punjab and Haryana participated in the open category matches, along with eight teams from the local area. Additionally, two exhibition matches for women’s Kabaddi were organized.
In the open Kabaddi competition, Team Khudda Alisher clinched first place, securing a cash prize of ₹51,000, while Team Mundhri Haryana secured second place with ₹41,000. Praveen Bopur was declared the Best Raider, while Billa Khudda Alisher and Janta Khudda Alisher jointly received the Best Stopper awards, along with cash prizes of ₹21,000 each.
The tournament witnessed a massive turnout of spectators who thoroughly enjoyed the matches. International commentators like Amrik Ghuman, Sandhu Bhara, Satpal Khadial, Pro Sewak Shergarh, Billa Lalto, and Razak Ghanour enhanced the excitement with their commentary.
Maninderjeet Singh Vicky Ghanour emphasized
the importance of such events in steering youth away from drug addiction and fostering enthusiasm for sports, echoing the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Other notable attendees included village officials, local leaders, and volunteers whose collective efforts made the event a grand success. The event highlighted the region’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and promoting a healthy, sports-oriented lifestyle.
